
The Mac default is to use the Mail app, but you can change the default to Outlook. Set an account as the default in Outlook for Mac.While Mail.app provides a free, full-featured email client on every Mac that is sold and has pioneered some innovative features over the years (like VIP and Handoff), it’s definitely not for everyone.


The Mac’s default Mail application (also referred to as “Mail.app” or “Apple Mail”) has a somewhat checkered past. However, it can be a bit tricky to set up a default Email Client and it gets worse with Windows 8, as it will set its built-in Mail app as Default Email. Setting programs as Default for opening files make it very easy to open files without going through the process of specifying which program to use.
